Frequently Asked Questions

How can I adjust this recipe to make the soup thicker?

You can make this soup thicker by swapping some or all of the half and half with heavy cream or adding leftover mashed potatoes or instant potato flakes to the soup until you reach the consistency you like best.

I don’t have heavy cream or potatoes. How else can I make it thicker?

You can whisk together a cornstarch slurry by combining 1/2-1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1/2-1 tbsp water or milk. Whisk this mixture into the soup and allow it to simmer 5 minutes to thicken.

I hate chunks in soup. How can I remedy this?

You can blend this soup completely with an emulsion blender or blender to a cohesive mix. Once blended, add it back to the saucepan to heat back up.

Is this recipe gluten-free?

No, but it can easily be adapted. You can substitute the all purpose flour with a gluten-free flour alternative or use the cornstarch slurry thickening method as noted above.

Love, Love, Love this soup. Quick and easy to prepare and the taste and texture is divine. This will go in my rotation. Just have to keep mixed vegetables on hand as that is something I never buy or stock in my pantry until now.

Delicious! I am a connoisseur when it comes to the creamy vegetable soup from either Dixie Stampede or Pirate’s Voyage. I didn’t have any more of the mix I usually buy from one of their gift shops in Pigeon Forge, so I decided to try this recipe.
It was delicious. I’d say it’s of course not a “100% copycat”, but it’s darn delicious and feels close enough to me!
My only criticism is that “1/2 to 1 tsp of ground white pepper” is quite broad, and is what can really make it different. I did just over 1/2tsp (like to fill the spoon without leveling) and I think it had quite a spicy bite from the white pepper! But that’s ok because I enjoy a kick of heat, so I like it still. But I was wondering if it was a typo?
However, for those that don’t want it on the “hot” side, I’d say do not go over 1/2tsp (or maybe even a tad less).

  3. Made this soup and for a non cook it was easy and good.
I am hooked on your reels.
I need the whisk you use, does it have a name ?
