Pro Tips and Substitutions
-
- Double the Recipe. Easily double this pepperoni pizza monkey bread recipe and make in a bundt pan, tube pan, or 2 loaf pans. Adjust the bake time accordingly. The bundt pan will take about 45-50 minutes.
-
- Make Ahead. You can prepare most of the monkey bread the night before. Just make the biscuit mixture, pour into a prepared loaf pan, cover, and refrigerate - WITHOUT the buttery topping. Remove to room temperature for 30 minutes, make the sauce, and bake as written.
-
- Canned Biscuit Dough. You can use your own dough if you prefer. This is a great homemade dough option. You could also use a homemade pizza dough.
-
- Add Veggies: Feel free to incorporate chopped bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms along with the pepperoni.
-
- Meat Options: Besides pepperoni slices, cooked, crumbled and drained sausage or ground beef, salami, cooked chicken, mini pepperoni, bacon, or Canadian bacon are also great options for pizza monkey bread.
-
- Change the Cheese: While mozzarella is classic, you can mix in other cheeses like provolone or cheddar for a flavor twist.
-
- Experiment with Seasonings: If you want a bit of heat, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes or using a spicy Italian seasoning blend.
-
- Additional Toppings: Besides serving pizza sauce or marinara sauce on the side, you can serve with olive oil for dipping. You can also garnish it with fresh basil or parmesan cheese.
