Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole

This delicious Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole is a family favorite for busy weeknights but also decadent enough to serve for a dinner party on the weekends. With just 15 minutes of prep time, it's ready to serve in under an hour. It's also so easy to prep this ahead, trust us when we say this will be on your weekly meal rotation.

Ingredients
 

  • 4 ounces sour cream
  • 10.5 ounce can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • seasoning salt or salt and black pepper amount as desired
  • 5 cups cooked chicken shredded or diced
  • 8 ounces cooked ham sliced or diced
  • 6 ounces shredded Swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup crushed buttery round crackers or panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Garnish: chopped fresh parsley optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9 pan or casserole dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, cream of chicken soup, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoning salt or salt and pepper until well combined.
  • To the mixture, fold in cooked chicken, diced ham, and Swiss cheese. Stir until everything is evenly coated.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared casserole dish.
  • In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, cracker crumbs, and parmesan cheese. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the chicken mixture.
  • Bake 35-40 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  • Cool 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Storage: 
Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. You can reheat the leftovers easily in the microwave or oven for a few minutes until warmed through.
Freeze the casserole as well to reheat at a later date or you can even assemble the bake in advance and freeze to bake at a later date; you just may need to bake it a little longer than the cook time in the recipe to make sure its cooked through.
Making this casserole in advance is easy! Assemble it a few hours before your guests arrive and store it in the fridge, then bake when you're ready to serve.

  • Great recipe for leftover chicken or ham. If you have leftovers from a big holiday meal or just from weeknight cooking, this is the best recipe to make the next day that everyone will love!
  • Use rotisserie chicken or ham steak for an easy store-bought solution. When were in a pinch during a busy week, these are the two ingredients we reach for at the grocery store that keep the prep time of this casserole at just 15 minutes!
  • Add veggies if desired. Spinach or even sautéed mushrooms would be delicious in this casserole.
  • Swap the cheese or use a blend. We love the flavor of classic Swiss with chicken cordon bleu, but you could also use mozzarella or provolone.
  • Add some fresh or dried herbs for delicious flavor. You can add thyme or rosemary for some more herby flavor in each bite.
  • Swap the cream of chicken soup with homemade. We have a great recipe for cream of mushroom soup! Make it from scratch if you desire.
